Prep time: 25 - 35 minutes

Baking time: 12 - 15 minutes

Ingredients:
• 1kg Bread Dough (self-mixed or ready-made)
• Flour

Pizza Braai Heat: Medium

Method - Dough:
Sprinkle flour onto your working surface and hands to prevent the dough from sticking to everything.

Divide the 1kg dough into small dough balls, aiming at between 9-12 balls.

Shape the balls as round as possible and lightly cover them with flour.

Cover with a damp cloth and set aside to rise for about 15 -30min in a warm spot.

The dough will continue to rise and once they’re about double the original size, they’re ready for the fire...

Method - Buns:
Heat up your Pizza Braai by making a normal fire.

Once your coals start to form, remove about 80% of the heat (coals and burning wood) from your Pizza Braai, leaving only a small amount of coals on top and only 3-5 coals underneath the drawer.

Place your buns into your Pizza Braai and bake for about 2 minutes.

Open the drawer to check the shape, form, and colour of the buns: You only want to see them rise at this point, and not yet change colour.

If your buns have already started turning golden brown, your Pizza Braai is still a little bit too hot.

After about 5 minutes, flip the buns over and bake for another 7-10 minutes.

Check on your buns every 2 minutes and move them around if they’re starting to turn golden brown. You don’t want burnt buns, so we need to keep moving them around to distribute the heat evenly.

If at the 10-minute mark they haven’t started browning, simply add more heat (only coals) to the top of your Pizza Braai.

After about 12-15 minutes your buns should be done and golden brown on top.

Let them rest for about 5-10 minutes and serve with butter, jam, cheese or anything you like on your buns.
